Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.

Take long walks in stormy weather or through deep snows in the fields and woods, if you would keep your spirits up. Deal with brute nature. Be cold and hungry and weary.

helloyoucreatives:

Don’t live life on default. This is Water.

This reminds me of the wonderful work of Paul Arden. As creative people who are behind this blog it makes us think about our creativity and what it means to us.

The idea of looking at things differently. We give power to our words, we give meaning to how we look at the world.

That we should try to look at the big picture, be aware of our lives in context. What is in front of us. Life is crazy, wonderful and amazing. Everyday.

As creatives we can choose how we see things. We can keep pushing, we can keep trying, failing and trying again. Each time learning new things. We can see the cold spaces and accept them, or we can change them.

We could float though our jobs if we choose to, delivering ideas, creations and thoughts that offer no value to the world but make very disconnected people in suits smile, or we can choose to really look at the world. Look at what we create that solves problems, speaks a human truth and will speak louder for our clients than any tick box campaign ever could.

None of this is easy, no one ever takes our creativity away from us. No one ever takes our hunger. We give it away, we let ourselves be settled and stop. We stop choosing to look. To investigate. To have passion. We choose not to let ourselves enjoy the creative process. We tell ourselves it is work, we pressure ourselves. We move forward but not with determination but time.

Hanging up posters of inspiring quotes, meaningless subscriptions to magazines that sit unread will not motivate us. We must step outside of our comfort zones, imagine the world through someone else’s eyes and through them look at ourselves.

See the things in us, the things that really matter.

Choose, choose to look at things differently. Choose to be the odd one out, the one who’s always thinking. The one that can’t help but share an idea, smile at creation and have passion in even the smallest things that you try to do.

Most of all, keep being you. Don’t become a copy or be like anyone else. You alone are who you are, there will only be one of you and you need to be yourself, as what you are is amazing.

This, like the video isn’t telling you to do any of this but to remind you that you have a choice and you should use it.
